Quick history of Mademoiselle Chanel's fascinating life!  Gabrielle Chanel was born in France on the 19th August, 1883. Yes, even her first name was beautiful. At the age of 12, her mother died. Her father then abandoned  her, she was then sent to live in an orphanage. At the age of 17 she left the orphanage and went to live in a convent. Can you imagine? Three years later, she opened up her second shop selling sportswear for women and started a revolution of  under garments, that were actually comfortable... In 1914, the war era brought the working woman into being, she began designing practical, multi-functional and simple clothing derived from men's styles. Her designs became very popular among modern women and later she became known among affluent circles for her limited edition evening dresses. In 1916, she had employed over 300 workers and was able to financially pay back Chapel for his financial loan, not that he expected it. Two years later, their relationship ended amicably. Disaster struck a year later, Boy Chapel died in car accident. 1921 marked the time for Chanel to extend herself further, she brought out the classic Chanel no. 5 perfume. Chanel opened up an accessories shop to sell costume jewellery and the popular perfume synonymous with her brand. This made a mark in fashion history as she was the first designer to ever make costume jewellery fashionable, before it was considered poor taste to wear anything other than real stones. In the early 30's she began making costumes and clothing for Hollywood actors/ 2 In 1935, Chanel second muse and love dies from a heart attack. At this point, her success was rivalled by new designers with more eccentric tastes. Chanel didn't waiver and continued to design items of practical elegance with a hint of simplicity. Once World War 11 broke out, a fashion recession had been declared and Chanel retired, living  off the royalties from her perfume. Fifteen years later, she brought out a new collection at the age of seventy. In 1971, Coco Chanel died in the Ritz hotel, never have been married. She died being remembered as a  fashion pioneer, a shrewd business women and a revolutionary thinker. Are you a fan?
